Experimenting with Glazes for Porcelain

So I finally have the results of my second batch of leaf shaped porcelain spoon rests and soap dishes. With these I tried out a number of different glazes and experimented with layering and application.

My favorites from this batch were leaves that I underglazed with Temmoku (a translucent brown/black glaze) and top coated with an opaque warm white glaze.

The Temmoku underglaze bubbles up into the white overglaze creating this beautiful marbled effect

The Saturation Gold glaze didn’t come out of the kiln quite as I expected. At the temperature these pieces were cooked at (2300+) it turned into a rich, dark bronze with splashes of antique gold and iridescent metallic blue

Another combination of glazes that turned out nicely was applying Temmoku over a thick layer of Nutmeg (a warm orange-brown glaze). It creates a rich bronzed-brown effect.
